Spondylus and aquamarine macrame pendant, with a little aquamarine bead.

This pendant is completely handmade, and it is made with the highest quality of Brazilian wax string. The cabochon of Spondylus (seashell) is from Salango, located in Manabi province, in the Ecuadorian coastal region. Meanwhile, the natural piece of aquamarine is from Tenente Ananias municipality, located in Rio Grande do Norte state, in the northeastern region of Brazil.

The Spondylus was the most valued good within pre-Columbian societies along the Andes. For Andean culture, this shell was used in different ceremonies and rituals as a rain-making, having a special meaning associated with the fecundity of nature.  Likewise, the Spondylus was a fundamental element to point social distinctions, being exclusively used by upper classes of Andean communities.
